Early and Periodic Screening,
Diagnostic, and Treatment
The Early and Periodic Screening,
Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) service is
Medicaid's comprehensive and preventive child
health program for individuals under the age
of 21. The EPSDT program provides
comprehensive health services for infants,
children, and adolescents enrolled in
Medicaid. Under federal regulations, states
are given some flexibility in determining the
timing of the health visits and screenings,
but the content of screening services is
mandated by law.
